Our Company

Plymouth Engineering, Inc., located in central Maine, has been serving the greater New England area for two decades. Due to our central location in Plymouth, Maine, our company is easily accessible to all major populated towns and cities. We are just a little over two hours north of York, Maine, thirty minutes south of Bangor, off exit 157 in Newport, Maine. Plymouth Engineering has a 20-year history of providing quality design services throughout New England.

Our company was started in 1990 by its founder, Keith P. Whitaker. The company began as a part-time venture with the purpose of providing professional engineering services to qualified design/build contracting firms as well as to several select local developers. The need for prompt, reasonably priced, professional services in the New England area led an ever-increasing number of clients to Plymouth Engineering. The first office was opened in a converted garage on the founder's farm. In 1994, part-time drafting and engineering help was added to meet the increasing workload. The company opened a small office in downtown Plymouth in 1995. With continued growth, in January 2021, the company relocated to its current offices at 8 Main Street (Triangle Plaza) in Newport, Maine. Over the years, additional full-time staff has been added to keep up with the ever-increasing workload. Currently, Plymouth Engineering, Inc. has a staff of thirteen including six licensed professionals and support.

Each of these services is designed to meet the specific needs of our clients and provide them with the best possible solutions. We believe in team-based design creation with the client being an important part of the team to ensure meeting project objectives.

Our staff members come from a diverse background of general civil engineering. We work in conjunction with state agencies, remediation contractors, and site owners to provide efficient, cost-effective environmental services. These services coincide well with the civil/site and structural engineering capabilities, as well as with the permitting services that we provide. Services include Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Oil Spill Control and Countermeasures Plans, and NPDES Storm Water Management Plans.

We provide local Planning Board support, ME DEP Storm Water, NRPA, and Site Law permitting. We provide State Fire Marshal permitting for above-ground tank farms. Our building design projects have included typical buildings such as municipal facilities, sand/salt storage structures, churches, schools, and office buildings, medical facilities, shopping centers, restaurants, apartment complexes, condominiums, and warehouses.

Design/build contractors, as well as developers, have found efficient and cost-effective structural engineering at Plymouth Engineering. Services range from engineering support for contractor shop drawings and plow frame racks to heavy municipal bridge structure rehabilitation and aluminum.

We have staff that are certified by the State of Maine as Third Party Inspectors for the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). Our staff has provided inspection services in various municipalities on projects ranging from apartment buildings to seafood processing plants.
