Yields and Energy Consumption

Our process is designed to provide high yields and energy efficiency. We achieve yields of 93-95% from methanol to formaldehyde, with energy consumption of 50 kWh per 1000 kg of formaldehyde produced. With our energy-saving package, we can achieve yields of 37% formaldehyde with energy consumption of 30 kWh per 1000 kg of formaldehyde produced.

Environmental Issues

At CAL Polymers, Inc., we understand the importance of environmental responsibility. Our engineering staff will assist you in providing information required to complete the necessary environmental permits for emissions. We design our processes to satisfy environmental regulations, and we can provide technology for zero water discharge, including cooling tower and boiler blow-downs.

CAL's Formaldehyde and UFC Process

Our formaldehyde process utilizes a mixed oxide catalyst bed for oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde. The formaldehyde gas exiting the reactor is preheated, preparing the methanol stream for optimal reaction with the catalyst. We have designed a triple-fold aftercooler to transfer heat to the steam recovery system and reduce cooling requirements of the absorber. This innovative design prevents the formation of unwanted paraformaldehyde in the equipment. After absorption, the recycled air stream is exhausted, containing ppm trace amounts of formaldehyde from the top of the absorption tower to the catalytic converter.
