Established in 1949, McGiffert and Associates, LLC, is a well-respected civil engineering firm with a rich history in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama. The company's roots lie in the vision of David G. McGiffert and Thomas H. Nicol, who, upon returning from World War II, founded Nicol and McGiffert, Tuscaloosa's first civil engineering firm. Mentored by W.H. Nicol, Thomas's father and a seasoned civil engineer, the young duo embarked on their journey, laying the foundation for a legacy over seven decades in the making. In 1959, Mr. Nicol pursued other interests, leading to the rebranding of the firm as McGiffert Engineering Company. This marked the beginning of an era dedicated to providing comprehensive civil engineering and surveying services to the region.

In 1965, McGiffert Engineering Company was reorganized and renamed McGiffert & Associates, Inc. This strategic move paved the way for the next generation of McGifferts to join the firm. In 1974 and 1982, David G. McGiffert's sons, W. David McGiffert and R. Allen McGiffert respectively, brought their engineering expertise and passion to the family business, playing an active role in its management. They ultimately assumed ownership control in 1991, solidifying the family's commitment to the firm's continued success.

The year 2001 marked another significant chapter in the company's evolution with the reorganization into McGiffert and Associates, LLC. The addition of new shareholders in 2005, 2012, and 2018 further strengthened the firm's foundation, attracting a diverse range of skills and perspectives. Today, the company is proudly led by Allen McGiffert, Darrell A. Hobson, Q. Hansel Stewart, and D. Draper McMillan.

The firm's dedicated team of approximately 20 employees, comprising engineers, surveyors, computer-aided design (CADD) technicians, construction technicians, and clerical staff, work diligently to deliver exceptional results on every project.
